The first attempt to expand the Transformers movie universe is coming together quickly, with Bumblebee now targeting a December 2018 release. And the cast for the movie is also growing, led by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena.
Hailee Steinfeld is starring in the movie, which Kubo And The Two Strings' Travis Knight will direct. Christina Hodson wrote the script, which we now have confirmation will be set in 1987. Steinfeld plays Charlie, a young woman looking for her place in the world as she prepares to turn 18. Scouting vehicles for parts in a junk yard, she discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When she works on the car, she discovers his true nature.
Steinfeld, Cena and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. will be joined by Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow, Ricardo Hoyos and Gracie Dzienny, and the movie kicks off shooting today in California.
Cena has appeared in a few movies, switching between comedy and drama for the likes of Trainwreck, Sisters and the upcoming Daddy's Home 2 and The Pact, with the former out on 22 November and the latter due on 6 April next year.
