While we’re still waiting to be convinced by the idea of Tyler Perry taking over the central role from Morgan Freeman for franchise reboot I, Alex Cross, director Rob Cohen has just made a casting choice we can very much get behind: John C McGinley will join the film as Cross’ boss.
McGinley, a veteran of Oliver Stone’s films and Point Break, has been better known these days as the speech-making, insult-flinging medical genius Perry Cox on Scrubs. And if we’re honest, the idea of him tearing strips off Perry fills us with no small amount of glee. Bet he won’t rant about how little he cares for Hugh Jackman, though.
He’s in to play Richard Brookwell, a headstrong, ambitious Chief of Police whose attitude clashes with that of Cross’ quiet, empathetic method of cracking murders.
With Matthew Fox, Rachel Nichols, Jean Reno, Giancarlo Esposito also among the cast, I, Alex Cross will flash back to a slightly younger main character in James Patterson’s books, with Cross on the trail of a serial rapist he suspects murdered his pregnant wife years earlier.
Cohen started shooting the film this week in Cleveland, which in this case is playing Washington DC…
