There are some periods in the rounds of movie news where it feels like every other story is about one actor. So apologies to anyone looking at the headline and saying, “Scarlett Johansson AGAIN? Come on!” But ‘tis true: she’s attached to another film. This time, it’s Jonathan Glazer’s next outing, Under The Skin.
Adapted from Michael Faber’s novel by Glazer and Walter Campbell, Skin finds an alien roaming through rural Scotland, using her slinky and hungry sexuality to hunt her prey.
"We're so excited to be working on this arrestingly original movie,” blabs sales company boss Glen Basner in a release picked up by Deadline. “How could we pass up the chance to work with a visionary director like Jonathan, especially when combined with the intriguing notion of Scarlett Johansson as a ruthless alien seductress?" The plan is for Glazer to start directing early next year.
But before you get overheated at the idea of Johansson as a Species-style sextraterrestrial, be warned that this is a pre-American Film Market attachment. She could still drop out before the film gets shooting. Plus, as noted above, she’s been rumoured for, and attached to, at least half the films in development right now. So unless she finds a Russian clone of herself (that should bring out the weirdo who used to email/comment about how she was actually birthed from some poor innocent girl’s DNA in a dark lab) to take all the roles, she might not even have time to do it.
