As he prepares to make his next horror thriller, Annabelle director John Leonetti is keeping his first piece of casting in the Conjuring family. He's hired Joey King, who played one of the haunted family members in James Wan's 2013 horror, as the lead for Wish Upon.

Barbara Marshall has written the script for the movie, which will see King as 16-year-old outsider Claire. She discovers a mysterious box that has special powers: it grants her any wish she desires. But as the characters from 2009 thriller The Box might have been able to tell her, such power always carries consequences. And Claire soon learns that every wish demands a deadly payment.

Broad Green is backing this one, which is produced by former Bad Robot executive Sherryl Clark, now in charge of her own production company, Busted Shark (looks like someone is a big Jaws fan...) If everything falls into place, Leonetti should have the cameras rolling this autumn.

King was last seen in Independence Day: Resurgence and has worked on TV series Tween Fest and Zach Braff's next film, Going In Style, which will be out on April 7 next year.
