Joel Silver’s attempts to get Lethal Weapon 5 off the ground may have stalled – at least, for now - when Mel Gibson declined to return, but it hasn’t stopped Silver from dipping his toe back into the buddy movie genre. And thank God for that.

For the man who produced The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Road House as well as the Lethal Weapon series is now set to add Fully Automatic to that list, with Wayne Kramer coming on board to direct.

Kramer, whose Running Scared was an effective action thriller, will take a pass at the script, which is currently by Marc Woolf.

The story, which sounds very Shane Black, will follow two rookie (and, no doubt, wisecracking) cops who team up with a female Delta Forces operative in order to stop a mad mercenary who’s stolen a horde of weapons.

Sounds like it could well be right up our street. The Silver Pictures production is aiming to go before cameras later this year.
