You might suspect, upon hearing that powerhouse producer Joel Silver is developing a film called Cash Truck, that someone is making a movie about his attempts to get Liam Neeson to perform some potentially life-threatening real stunt. But no – it’s simply a remake of French heist thriller Le Convoyeur (above).
The plot of the 2004 original found a father out for a pleasant drive with his son. They’re unfortunate enough to be on the road behind an armoured car when masked gunmen attempt to hijack the dosh-laden vehicle.
A stray spray of bullets hits the man’s car, killing his child. Wracked with guilt and burning with vengeance, he seeks to find those responsible. And, as he suspects that it was an inside job, he gets hired by the armoured car company so he can figure out who the culprits were.
This isn’t a new project – Paramount and Nu Image/Millennium had been developing it, with writers including Andrew Kevin Walker and David Ayer taking a crack at the concept.
But now Silver Pictures and StudioCanal are starting from scratch, taking meetings with scriptwriters to get it moving again. It's early days for the project, so it remains to be seen if it'll get off the ground this time...
