Hey, everyone, remember Rick Flag in Suicide Squad? Sure you do, he was that breakout character, everyone's favourite, brought to life by Joel Kinnaman. Him? That guy? Of course you remember good old Rick... Snarkiness aside, Rick Flag will, as has previously been rumoured, be back back back for James Gunn's sequel/re boot The Suicide Squad.
Kinnaman took to Instagram to reveal that he's in the midst of prep for the new film, written and to be directed by Gunn. Nothing has been made official about the plot yet (we'd expect another tough mission featuring the assortment of anti-heroes and villains that Gunn assembles), but we do know that Kinnaman marks the latest returning name from the first film, joining Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney's Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, the woman who puts the team together on screen.
New faces this time include Idris Elba, John Cena, David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior, but while Michael Rooker was reported as being in talks to play King Shark, the actor (a Gunn regular), has since debunked that idea. Whether that's to preserve the surprise if he does pop up or because a deal couldn't be reached, remains to be seen.
The Suicide Squad is currently targeting a 6 August, 2021 release date. As for Kinnaman, he'll show up in The Informer (AKA Three Seconds, due on 30 August this year) and has worked on The Sound Of Philadelphia and The Secrets We Keep.
