Joel David Moore Boards Savages

Some people are born to play action heroes. Others, politicians. But Joel David Moore – probably still best known as Dr Norm Spellman in Avatar – has definitely carved out a niche in playing nerdy types. It’s a pattern he won’t change much, as he’s just signed on to a computer savvy type who switches to the pot business in Oliver Stone’s Savages.

Stone is already at work on the film, which adapts Don Winslow’s 2010 book. Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson and Blake Lively are starring as two buddies (and the girl who loves them both) who find their successful weed-cultivating business threatened when the head of a Mexican drug cartel decides that it’s time they were working for her.

Salma Hayek is playing the crime boss, with Benicio Del Toro as Lado, her fearsome enforcer. Also aboard are John Travolta as a burned out DEA officer and Uma Thurman, who is the mother of Lively’s character, O. Then there’s Emile Hirsch, playing Esteban.

Moore will next be seen trying to avoid getting chomped by killer critters in Shark Night 3D (due to land here on September 30), and also has a role in Amanda Seyfried kidnap drama Gone.
