Before the MCU, there was the View Askewniverse, weaved by Kevin Smith around the indie films he made in the wake of Clerks. It's been a few years since he went to that well, but is jumping back in with the meta-tastic Jay And Silent Bob Reboot. Smith took to Instagram to reveal some new cast members popping up for at least one scene, pictured below with regular cohort Jason "Jay" Mewes plus new arrivals Joe Manganiello, Craig Robinson, Justin Long, SMILF's Frankie Shaw and the film's co-producer Jordan Monsanto.
The movie sees Smith's Silent Bob and his chatty companion discover that the movie made loosely about them (the Bluntman And Chronic film in Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back) is being remade. Outraged that they're losing the rights to their names, they decide to try and stop it, launching a cross-country crusade. And if that sounds exactly like Strike Back, then that's the point.
With the cameras now rolling in New Orleans, the film sees the return of a few Askewniverse veterans, including Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks and Jason Lee as Brodie Bruce, while Robinson worked with the director on Zack And Miri Make A Porno and Long starred in Tusk. The likes of Grant Gustin and Tom Cavanagh (Smith has directed episodes of The Flash) are also expected to appear.
Smith has also been keeping people up to date on the progress of the new film via his YouTube channel, with behind the scenes video diaries, the latest of which is below.
