It's been a tough road for author Joe Hill's much-loved tales of morality and mortality, with Horns seeing little cinematic love on release and projects such as Locke And Key and Heart Shaped Box seemingly cursed to linger in development. There's better news for the TV adaptation of 2013's NOS4A2, however, as US cable channel AMC has officially commissioned a series.

NOS4A2 introduced the world to Victoria “Vic” McQueen, blessed with a gift for finding lost things that also happens to be a curse for her slowly-deteriorating mind. She crosses path with another gifted type, Charlie Manx, who unlike her uses his own powers to seed dread and further his own ends. He abducts children in his 1938 Rolls Royce – the title is his number plate – and drains his passengers’ souls to make him stay young. When he kidnaps Vic’s son, he puts them on a collision course and forces her to risk breaching his nightmare lair.

With Hill attached to oversee things as an executive producer, Fear The Walking Dead and Hell On Wheels veteran Jami O'Brien is handling the show-running chores. AMC optioned the book back in 2015 and last year set up a writers room run by O'Brien to jump-start the show and get it headed towards series.

AMC has ordered a 10-episode first season that is due to premiere next year in the US, with AMC Studios handling international distribution. Some good news at last!
