Joe Carnahan is aiming to follow up his stint directing The A-Team with a movie based on a script he's been working on for at least two years: The Grey.

Talking with Cinematical, he mentions that he's finally ready to see the killer wolf thriller get pushed into production. "There's a film that I wrote that I want to do called The Grey, which is about a group of pipeline workers in Alaska flying back into civilization after being remote for a number of months.

"The 737 they're on goes down, and they begin to be hunted by a pack of rogue wolves. It's very much a man vs. nature adventure, existentialist kind of drama that I want to do. We're very, very close to it now."

Don't think it's a done deal just yet, though. Until Hannibal, BA and co rolled along in their van, Carnahan hadn't exactly been having an easy time of it in terms of getting films made. Thriller remake Bunny Lake Is Missing, drug drama Killing Pablo and James Ellroy adaptation White Jazz all started and stalled at various stages.

And if **The Grey **fails to track down funding, he says he can always dig back into his To Do list. "If not The Grey, Killing Pablo's always going to be up there for me. And White Jazz – I'm still bound and determined to make that movie."

Yes, even though** White Jazz **had been presumed deader than a two-dollar hooker with a bullet for brain jewelery (sorry, got a bit noir there), Carnahan argues that it's possible. "I think if we can do it for a number, and that number is gonna be...about $12, then we can make that movie. I think it's a tremendous script, and I think there's always a place for that kind of movie. Certainly there's still got to be a place for the LA Confidential sequel, I can't imagine that we've forgotten that completely."
