Though the cameras have been rolling for several days, Brett Ratner continues to add cast members to his new take on Hercules, which stars Dwayne Johnson as the muscly central figure. The latest recruit for the ensemble is Joe Anderson.
The actor, a veteran of Twilight’s Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and The Grey, is set to play a marathon runner who brings news to Herc and his mercenaries about their enemies’ movements.
Anderson is now part of a cast that includes Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Aksel Hennie, Tobias Santelmann, Rebecca Ferguson and Ingrid Bolso Berdal.
This version of the Hercules story, drawn from Steve Moore’s Radical Comics graphic novel, makes the main man more a tortured mortal than the usual demigod. A warrior driven by the lust for battle, he and his men are called upon to train the Thracian army in exchange for riches. Yet even as he shapes the fighters into an unstoppable force, he begins to suspect the real truth behind the conflict.
Ratner is shooting now in Budapest and will march on to our screens on July 25 next year. Anderson is also in Horns, adapted from Joe Hill’s novel, and starring Daniel Radcliffe. That one doesn’t have a UK date yet.
