Jodie Foster Off To Elysium

The world at large knows almost nothing about it aside from some early casting and the fact that District 9 writer/director Neill Blomkamp has most of the funding together. But his next film, Elysium, has attracted another big name, with Jodie Foster jumping aboard.

According to Deadline, Foster has agreed to co-star with Blomkamp veteran Sharlto Copley and Matt Damon, who was loosely attached just before Christmas.

Information about the script has been tightly locked away so far, with Blomkamp and co refusing to elaborate much beyond the basic concept of the film being set on a far-flung planet in the distant future.

Media Rights Capital is the company backing him and figuring out the finances, with a plan to start attracting distribution partners once more of the main elements are in place. With Damon and now Foster aboard, you can bet most of the bigger studios will be starting to perk up their ears at the prospect of taking the movie on.

Foster, of course, is now waiting to see how the world treats her next film, The Beaver, which features vaguely problematic leading man Mel Gibson and a fluffy puppet. But she’s taking her mind off that by gearing up to work on the adaptation of Yasmina Reza’s award-scooping play God of Carnage alongside Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C Reilly. So no chance of controversy th… Wait, it’s directed by Roman Polanski. Never mind.
