Ridley Scottalready has his Napoleon in place for future film Kitbag, with Joaquin Phoenix aboard. But he'd still been looking for someone to play Josephine opposite him. The director didn't have to look too far, as Jodie Comer, who appears in Scott's next film to be released, The Last Duel, is now in early talks to sign up.
According to Deadline, Scott was so impressed with her work on Duel (he apparently had not seen Killing Eve) that she quickly became his top choice for Josephine in Kitbag. The trade site cautions that Comer's deal is by no means done and she could still not end up takin the part, but with the director's enthusiastic stamp of approval, we'd figure that only scheduling issues could possibly derail the casting at this point.
Kitbag, which will take a look at Napoleon's originals and his fast, ruthless climb to emperor, will be viewed through the prism of his volatile, passionate relationship with Josephine. David Scarpa wrote the script and Apple Studios is providing the backing. Before he starts work on it, though, Scott will shoot House Of Gucci, though given his current pace, he could be at work on the Napoleon film before the end of the year.
