Writer/director Mike Mills tends to make films that appear small and intimate in scale but tackle big themes. That's definitely the impression you get from the trailer for his latest, C'mon C'mon, which stars Joaquin Phoenix. Check out the footage...
C'mon C'mon finds Phoenix as radio journalist Johnny, who forges a tenuous but transformational relationship with his nephew Jesse (Woody Norman) when they are unexpectedly thrown together. To help the boy deal with his change in life and to try and get a better handle on existence, the pair embarks on a cross-country trip, with Johnny interviewing kids to ask them what they think about their own lives and where the world is headed.
The trailer doesn't really offer any of that, but it does display the warm tone the film wants to employ (even with its black and white visuals) and some of the cast who fill the ensemble, including Gabby Hoffman, Scoot McNairy and Molly Webster.
C'mon C'mon premiered at the Telluride Film Festival to positive notices and will be in US cinemas this November. We're waiting to see when it might arrive in the UK.
