They've shared the screen a few times in the past, including films such as Her and Mary Magdalene, and engaged couple Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will be together again on a new film, particularly if Lynne Ramsay gets her way. She's cast the pair in her next project, Polaris.
Almost nothing has been revealed about the film beyond that title, but there's reason to get excited, not least because it marks a new movie from Ramsay, whose work is always interesting. And it would mark her second time marshalling Phoenix's particular energy on set after You Were Never Really Here. She dropped word of the new film to El Espanol (the piece was translated by The Film Stage) and she had this to say about working with the actor: "He’s crazy, but he’s the best actor I’ve ever met. Everything he does on the set has a reason. It’s much more difficult when you come up with an original idea like this, but it’s impossible not to get excited when you’re preparing a movie with Joaquin."
We could be waiting some time for this one, as both Phoenix and Mara have busy schedules in the coming months. But we'll take the prospect of a new Lynne Ramsay to keep us going for now.
