Jennifer Lopez is joining hubby Marc Anthony in a biopic of salsa singer Hector Lavoe, El Cantante.
Written and directed by Leon Ichaso, the independently produced biopic charts the life of Lavoe, a hugely popular Spanish singer in the '70s, renowned for his crystal clear vocal and inimitable talent for improv.
Sadly, Lavoe’s life descended into a miasma of personal tragedy with an addiction to heroin leaving him penniless, his life ending after an AIDS related illness. Lopez will assay Hector’s wife, Puchi.
Shooting in Puerto Rico, El Cantate adds another project onto Lopez’s already busy slate with a clutch of thrillers — Bordertown and Tick Tock — and WWII musical- based drama American Darlings with Nicole Kidman already swimming down the pike.
