With the small matter of finishing off the current Star Wars Skywalker trilogy on his plate, you’d have thought J.J. Abrams would have his hands full. But the ever-prolific director and producer is also shopping out his first TV as creator since Fringe — and it now has a title and a home.
The show is currently going under the title Demimonde, which according to our rudimentary GCSE-level French translates roughly as ‘Half-world’. That would fit with the plot outline, which sees a father and daughter get zapped to a strange new realm after their scientist wife/mother slips into a coma following a car crash.
The series is being developed by HBO, who are currently behind the Westworld series that Abrams executive produces. It seems the premium cable network’s handling of that science fiction saga encouraged Abrams to side with HBO over Apple, who are continuing to plough money into an upcoming slate of original programming.
Popular as Westworld is, HBO will still be keeping an eye out for a new show that could fill the Game of Thrones shaped hole that will be left when the final season airs in 2019. It’s reasonable to expect that Demimonde could arrive shortly after the Westeros saga comes to its icy, fiery conclusion.
