Even though it has approximately 759 of its toy brands at different stages on the movie development path, Mattel keeps trying to keep Hot Wheels happen. The latest attempt comes courtesy of a partnership with Warner Bros. and producer JJ Abrams.
There are no writers, directors or cast attached for this one yet, but the plan is to use the venerable 54-year-old car toys to fuel and action film full of high-speed stunts and all the vehicles you might want to see on screen, in live-action form. Abrams' Bad Robot company will look to get the wheels moving on this one, which has a history littered with failed attempts, including versions for Sony, Legendary and Warner Bros. itself which have seen the likes of McG, Simon Crane and Justin Lin come and go in the nearly two decades since it was first considered for a movie.
Will this one finally leave the garage? That remains to be seen, but at least Mattel already has Barbie strutting its way through production...
