The new attempt to revive the 24 concept (albeit without Kiefer Sutherland's Jack Bauer) has added a TV heavyweight. Jimmy Smits, a man whose CV includes the likes of NYPD Blue, The West Wing and Sons Of Anarchy, will play a politician for the pilot of 24: Legacy.
This time, the story will focus on Eric Carter (Straight Outta Compton's Corey Hawkins), a military hero back from serving overseas and hoping for a quieter life with his wife. But he soon learns that trouble has followed him home, and he'll have to reach out to the Counter Terrorism Unit for help to stop what could be one of the largest terror attacks on the US.
Providing assistance will be Rebecca (Miranda Otto), the whip smart former head of the CTU, who is married to senator John Donavon (Smits). No doubt he'll be involved in some crucial way, along with Teddy Sears (currently seen as Jay Garrick on The Flash), who is Keith Mullins, Rebecca's former second-in-command, and the man who now runs CTU.
With Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz back running the show and Stephen Hopkins returning to direct the pilot, the new show will be vying for a pickup from the US Fox network.
