For years we've been told that Sega's iconic Sonic The Hedgehog would be the subject of a big-budget movie, but only now is it seemingly coming together. And the latest twist? Jim Carrey's making a deal to play the villainous Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
With Jeff Fowler in the director's chair and James Marsden and Tika Sumpter already in the cast, the film will use a blend of live-action and CG to bring Pat Casey and Josh Miller's story to life, one that appears to channel the usual conflict between the speedy Sonic and the evil scientist who is once again bent on world domination.
While Sonic has been the inspiration for no less than five TV series, we're still intrigued to see what form the movie will take. And now to discover if Carrey will be going Full Grinch again as Robotnik or if he's simply lending his voice to a CG Robotnik. Either way, the film is scheduled to hit cinemas via Paramount on 15 November in the US and 28 November here.
