The last time graphic novel character Painkiller Jane hit our screens, it was via a short-lived TV series starring Kristanna Loken. We're thinking the film version might attract a little more attention, as Jessica Chastain has signed on to produce and star in a film based on the characters.
Painkiller Jane was originally created by Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada for a five-issue miniseries that went on to spawn a healthy run and a multitude of crossovers with the likes of Hellboy and The Punisher. Jane Vasko is a New York cop recruited by the FBI for an undercover mission to bust a drug and human trafficking ring. After she's double-crossed and left nearly dead, she's granted Wolverine-like healing powers and, quitting the force, becomes a vigilante with her own mission, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake.
Chastain will produce alongside Lotus Entertainment, Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian and Palmiotti. It's all being figured out, so there are no details on who will write or direct yet. As for when she'll be back on our screens, Chastain stars in lobbying drama Miss Sloane, which is out on 10 February next year.
