Snow White And The Huntsman’s sequel, simply known as The Huntsman already boasts Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt in its cast. But it’s boosting its powerhouse actress quotient by one, with Jessica Chastain signing on to join them.
Chris Hemsworth is back for the film, which is still wrapping much of its story in a mysterious magical mist. But all signs so far point to it serving as a prequel to the Snow White story, detailing how Hemsworth’s Eric met the evil queen Ravenna (Theron) before Kristen Stewart’s heroine entered the picture. There has been talk of magic mirrors and mystical quests, but beyond that, director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and Universal aren’t saying.
Blunt is reportedly playing Ravenna’s equally powerful sister, but Variety’s report doesn’t say how Chastain will factor into the story. Perhaps she’ll have more of a connection to Hemsworth?
Frank Darabont, who was attached to direct before dropping out thanks to creative differences, wrote the most recent draft of the script for the film, which will be out on April 22. Chastain, last seen in A Most Violent Year, will next be on our screens in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak, due on October 16 and Ridley Scott’s The Martian, out November 27.
