Back in 2000, documentary The Eyes Of Tammy Faye chronicled the rise and fall of infamous televangelists Tammy Faye Bakker Messner and her husband Jim Bakker. It'll now be adapted as a feature film, with Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield on to star.

The Big Sick's Michael Showalter is on board to direct the story, which will chronicle how in the 1970s and ’80s, Tammy Faye and Jim rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and a theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and sexual scandal tore their marriage apart and toppled their carefully constructed empire.

Abe Sylvia wrote the script, with Chastain also producing in addition to starring. There are no details yet on when it'll shoot, but Chastain will return to our screens in Dark Phoenix, with the latest X-Men movie arriving on 5 June. She'll also be seen in It: Chapter 2, due on 6 September. Garfield, last appearing in Under The Silver Lake has been busier on stage of late than screen, but recently landed the lead in music biopic Instrumental.
