As reported recently, the developing remake of Adrian Lyne's Jacob's Ladder now has David M. Rosenthal is now set to direct and Michael Ealy set to take the lead. Now there are two new cast members in Grey's Anatomy's Jesse Williams and Sleepy Hollow's Nicole Beharie. Neither's character has been revealed yet, but Williams in particular is believed to have "a major role".
This Jacob's Ladder remains a strange proposition, since it doesn't actually seem to be a remake at all. Rather than retelling the psychologically troubling tale of a Vietnam vet (played in the Lyne film by Tim Robbins) who tries to figure out his past even as he’s haunted by increasingly strange hallucinations, this take will apparently focus on new situations and characters, but maintain the existential themes. Variety calls it "a modern day paranoid action thriller about two brothers".
The screenplay has been through the hands of both Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train) and Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter). Will Packer is among the producers. Shooting is expected to start next month.
