Since nabbing a well-deserved Oscar nomination for his performance in The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner has seen his career hit a high gear with more offers and opportunities. And now he’s talking a little bit about the options he has, including a role alongside Ewan McGregor in The Raven, starring in Peter Berg’s Battleship and another, mystery project he’s not ready to name yet.
Let’s start with** The Raven**. Ninja Assassin director James McTeigue has been developing a fictional account of Edgar Allen Poe's life, blending serial killer drama with fake literary as Poe joins the hunt for a murderer.
From the tone of the piece, it sounds like Renner is ready to commit to the period thriller. Less certain is him donning military fatigues – albeit naval uniform – again for Battleship, the toy-based sci-fi action pic that Peter Berg is aiming at our screens in 2012. There’s no word on whether he’ll accept the role of, we’re guessing, the heroic captain of the human fleet facing down nasty alien types, but it would certainly launch him even further into public awareness.
As for the final, unknown project, Renner says he’s had five meetings about it already, and will be forced to choose between that and **Battleship **as their schedules overlap. So what could he be pondering? Movieline suggests it might turn out to be Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, The Master, with Philip Seymour Hoffman as a charismatic religious leader type. We’ll find out soon enough…
