We've known since May that the likes of Alec Baldwin, James Franco, Anjelica Huston and Omar Sy are all lending their tonsil talents to honestly-still-sounds-like-a-spoof Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad. Now we know that someone with experience being part of a superhero team has the lead, with Avengers veteran Jeremy Renner aboard.
Deadline's report on his casting also clarifies some of the plot, which previously ran thusly: When the sinister Doc Walrus (John Cleese) hatches a secret plot to accelerate global warming and melt the Arctic Circle, a ragtag group of inexperienced heroes including a polar bear, an albatross, two conspiracy-minded otters and a red fox must band together to foil his evil plans and save the arctic.
We now know that Renner will voice an arctic fox named Swifty who has dreams os joining the huskies working for the Arctic Blast Delivery service. It's he who discovers the not-so-good doctor's plan, and rallies the others to stop him. Dimos Vrysellas and Aaron Woodley are directing from a script by Bob Barlen and Cal Brunker.
Renner's next live-action job is in Arrival, which will be out here on November 11.
