Stories about women moving in on a mobster world are becoming popular right now, be they based on a fictional source such as The Kitchen or true crime, as with the just-announced Jennifer Lawrence drama Mob Girl. Add Jennifer Lopez to the list of actors tackling a real-life woman who rose to power in a mobster world with The Godmother.
Sopranos veteran Terrence Winter and Deadwood/Sons Of Anarchy writer Regina Corrado have worked on the script, which chronicles the rise-and-fall of Griselda “La Madrina” Blanco who outsmarted and out-hustled the men around her to rise from an impoverished childhood in Colombia to become one of the world’s biggest drug lords, who reportedly was worth more than $2 billion and was a key figurehead in Miami’s ruthless and murderous Cocaine Cowboy Wars.
Lopez is on to play Blanco and act as one of the movie's producers. And, according to The Wrap's sources, she's also considering making this her directorial debut but has yet to actually commit to the idea.
Next up for the singer/actor is Hustlers, which will launch at the Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September and lands in UK cinemas on 13 September.
