Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez' film career has been a mix of highs (Out Of Sight) and, er, not-so-highs (The Boy Next Door?). She'll be hoping for a high with a new movie, as she's starring for director Lorene Scafaria in Hustlers.

Scafaria, who last made 2015's The Meddler, has written the script based on Jessica Pressler's New York Magazine article The Hustlers At Scores. The piece detailed how a savvy, real-life group of former strip club employees who join forces turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.

Lopez is playing the ringleader to the group of women, who take the idea of getting a proper cut a little too far. The script takes place in New York and the toll that the financial crisis took on the employees. "The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we're valued for, what we've been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture," says Scafaria. "Men have been told they're worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they're worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that's what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world. There is no other actor who could embody this raw and dynamic character with such complexity, humanity and intelligence. It's always been her. She's fucking Jennifer Lopez."

Lopez will be back on our screens in Second Act, due out in the UK on 30 November.
