Known for her serious acting chops and seriously entertaining off-screen sound bites and scene-stealing, Jennifer Lawrence is looking to expand her range behind the camera. She’s currently planning to direct her first film, called Project Delirium.

So what is it about? We’ll let Lawrence herself explain, as she told Entertainment Weekly: “It’s based on this article, Operation Delirium about mental warfare in the ’60s, like an acid experiment gone terribly wrong.” First published in The New Yorker in 2012, it chronicled the research into psychochemicals that temporarily incapacitate the mind as a way to take out enemy soldiers. You can read the entire piece here.

And why now for Lawrence? “It’s funny, I’ve wanted to direct since I was 16 and always thought I should start making steps towards that,” she says. “If I had tried to do it earlier, I wouldn’t have been ready. Now I actually feel ready.” There’s no timeline for this to come together yet – she has other work in front of the camera to complete first, and will next be seen in David O. Russell’s latest, Joy (out January 1 here), followed by X-Men: Apocalypse, which lands on May 19.
