Everyone and their dog is headed to Netflix to make movies and TV shows, and Adam McKay is among those partnering with the streaming service. He's already set up a new comedy film, Don't Look Up and has Jennifer Lawrence on to star.
McKay also wrote the script, which sees two low-level astronomers on a media tour to warn mankind that an approaching asteroid is poised to wipe out life on Earth. Given McKay's recent trend of comedies with warnings built in (The Bigs Short, Vice) it feels on brand.
"I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence," McKay tells Variety. "She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call 'a dynamite act.' And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way." He's aiming to start shooting in April and the film should debut on Netflix later this year.
