While they've both enjoyed successful film careers, it's a little tempting to see this new small screen project, to be executive produced by and starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon as a reunion for the Green sisters from Friends. Still, the untitled series, which has now been picked up by Apple's fledgling drama side, should allow them to show off a different dynamic.

The series will have House Of Cards writing veteran Jay Carson working both from an idea by producer Michael Ellenberg adapting Brian Stelter's book Top Of The Morning, which explores the lives of the people who make morning shows in the States.

Quite what Aniston and Witherspoon will be playing in the show has yet to be announced – co-hosts of the show? Producer and host? – but Apple is confident enough to order two 10-episode series right out of the gate, signalling its intent to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon. It comes on the heels of Witherspoon's success with Big Little Lies and will see Aniston back on TV screens in a big way for the first time since the aforementioned, slightly successful sitcom.

In related Apple series news, the company has also officially given a straight-to-series order to the re-imagined anthology series Amazing Stories, with original producer Steven Spielberg involved and Bryan Fuller running the show.
