Long a passion project of Robert De Niro and writer/producer Art Linson, The Comedian is now finally coming together, and Jennifer Aniston has just signed on to co-star with De Niro.

The movie’s story is still largely under wraps, but we do know it’ll feature the King Of Comedy star as a toxic club comic looking to get a little balance back in his life. Aniston is aboard to play woman he meets at a wedding and with whom he develops a close relationship.

Taylor Hackford is in the director’s chair, and plans to start the cameras rolling nearly year now that Cinelou, the company that provided the backing for Cake (which scored Aniston a Golden Globe nomination), is putting up the cash to get it made. Linson wrote the script, and he and De Niro hired Jeffrey Ross to provide the stand up material for the main character.

Aniston, last seen in She’s Funny That Way, has been at work on war drama The Yellow Birds and Garry Marshall’s latest holiday-themed romantic comedy, Mother’s Day.
