Given the company’s love for its franchises – your** Kung Fu Panda**s, your How To Train Your Dragons, your Madagascars, it’s not surprising to learn that DreamWorks Animation isn’t quite ready to turn the Shrek tap off completely. Jeffrey Katzenberg has admitted that the company is, as has long been thought, keeping the door open to future ogre outings.

Talking with the Fox Business Network (reported by Variety), Katzenberg was non-committal about the idea of when Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, Puss and the gang might return to cinema screens, but he seemed confident that we’ll be visiting Far Far Away in the not-too-distant future.

“We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest,” he said. “But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.”

Shrek has, of course, stayed in our consciousness via TV movies and shorts, plus a new theme attraction called Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure, scheduled to arrive on London’s South Bank next year. Run by London Dungeon/London Eye owners Merlin, it’ll feature an interactive walkthrough adventure and a chance to meet the characters, Disneyland-style.
