Jeffrey Dean Morgan spends a lot of his acting time these days appearing in soapy mob drama Magic City on US TV. But he swapping the small screen for the big one again, snapping up a supporting role in supernatural thriller Solace alongside Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell.

The film, which Alfonso Poyart is directing from a script currently credited to Peter Morgan, follows a former doctor with psychic abilities (Hopkins) who used to consult on crimes but withdrew when his daughter is killed.

But when an FBI agent (the role Morgan is taking) asks for his help to catch a particularly nasty killer (Farrell), he agrees, only to discover that the criminal has similar psychic talents, leading to the two men detecting each other’s moves.

This one has been thrashing away in development for years now, originating at New Line but now under the auspices of producers Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson.

Poyart is getting set to shoot the film this May in Detroit. Morgan will next appear in Red Dawn (due March 15) and The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea alongside Chloe Moretz and Jessica Biel.
