Masters Of The Universe is like a projectile rattling around the pinball table of development, careening from director to writer and back again but never quite settling. It’s off in a different direction again now, with **Kick-Ass 2 **writer/director Jeff Wadlow taking a crack at the script{ =nofollow}.

The film, which will draw from Mattel’s popular 1980s toy line and the cartoons the company cooked up to help sell it, will present some take on the story of the heroic Prince Adam, who becomes the even more heroic He-Man via his magic sword and the power of Greyskull. He has to protect Eternia and its people from the singularly inept evil of Skeletor, who despite his skull face, also looks like he’s spent time at the gym with The Rock.

Sony has been attempting to get this project on its feet since 2009, and thereby to wipe our memories clear of the 1987 film. It’s still without a director, though the studio has tried various contenders including G.I. Joe: Retaliation’s Jon M. Chu and drew up another shortlist in February. Wadlow helping out with the script could push his name to the forefront of the contenders.
