Jeff Goldblum and Danny DeVito as Simon and Garfunkel? Well, not exactly. But the two actors have both agreed to play squabbling former music partners in a situation reminiscent of their long-standing feud on a new, untitled comedy that Amazon is busy hoping will blossom into a successful series.
Tim Long, who has worked on The Simpsons for years, is overseeing the new show for Brian Grazer's Imagine company. The focus will be on Matt Downey (Goldblum) and Arlo Finkleman (DeVito) who decades ago were a hugely successful musical duo. But after a vitriolic falling-out, they've barely spoken to each other in ages. But circumstances force these two tune titans – who also happen to be blithering idiots – to reunite, and it's up to the people around them – ex-wives, kids, managers, friends and lovers – to make sure things stay on track.
It's just the latest attempt by Amazon to nab viewers by backing projects with big names attached – the company has David O. Russell working on a mafia drama and Moonlight's Barry Jenkins in the early stages of an Underground Railroad show.
Goldblum will be back on our screens later this year in Thor Ragnarok (due 27 October), while DeVito is reuniting with Tim Burton for a role in the new Dumbo.
