Now here’s a heavyweight pairing: Javier Bardem has signed on to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s latest movie, Biutiful.
The Spanish-language movie, which starts shooting in Barcelona next week, is the first movie to be directed by Inarritu since Babel, and makes him the first filmmaker of the Big Three (himself, Guillermo Del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron) behind production company Cha Cha Cha to make a movie for the company.
Biutiful revolves around a man involved in shady dealings who runs into a childhood friend, now a cop.
It’s a simple set-up, but in Inarritu’s hands, with Bardem starring, we’d imagine that it will be anything but simplistic.
The movie also marks the first movie Inarritu has made without Guillermo Arriaga writing the script. The duo split in fractious circumstances after Babel, so Inarritu has taken on sole writing duties on Biutiful.
