First announced a while ago, a new live-action/animated mash-up series that boasts Phil Lord and Chris Miller as executive producers is going ahead at Fox on US TV. And Jason Sudeikis is attached to provide the main voice for sci-fi comedy Son Of Zorn.

The show has a potentially fun and unique concept, with animated warrior Zorn (Sudeikis) returning to Earth after 10 years spent doing battle on his home world Zephyria to try and reconnect with his live-action son Alan (Johnny Pemberton) and ex-wife Edie (Cheryl Hines). He discovers that the challenges of a regular, numbing office job and dull suburban life might be more difficult for him to tackle than interstellar war.

Given their hectic schedule – they have at least two other shows in development along with film commitments to the young Han Solo Star Wars film – this will only have limited input from Lord and Miller, with Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne as the primary writers and showrunners and Eric Appel having directed the pilot and setting the tone as the series goes forward. Son Of Zorn should be on the air later next year, and, if it’s as successful as the Lord and Miller-produced Last Man On Earth, will make it over here after its American debut.
