Just when we’d got our heads around the fact that a Ghostbusters sequel has secretly been in production with Jason Reitman at the helm continuing his father’s most iconic creation, something more has emerged from the ether: not a spirit or a glob of ectoplasm, but a teaser video. Yes, this film that we only just found out about already has a tiny little trailer. There’s production value behind it too – this is no basic logo reveal, with Reitman Jr. helming the clip himself. Take a look here:

As brief a teaser as this is, it boasts some impressively moody visuals, that iconic music from Elmer Bernstein, and – yes – a fresh glimpse at the Ecto-1. Also confirmed: the film is only a year and a half away, with a ‘Summer 2020’ release in place. According to Entertainment Weekly, who broke the teaser, the clip is meant to invite questions about who the owner of the spooky barn is, and why they’ve got the old Ghostbusters vehicle hidden away.

Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel was revealed a matter of hours ago, and is confirmed to take place in the universe of the first two films – though the filmmaker also said he has “so much respect” for Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot following an all-female Ghostbusters team in a separate timeline. As for Ivan Reitman, he’s given the idea the firm thumbs up, saying his son’s concept for a sequel had him “crying by the end of it, it was so emotional and funny.” It remains to be seen how many of the original cast signs up, and who the new cast will include – but for now, watch that teaser above and get pondering.
