“Jason Reitman’s planning to direct men, women and children in his next film?” we hear you ask. “Doesn’t he do that in every film? The frames would be mostly scenery, otherwise…” Yes, very funny, smart face. The **Juno and **Thank You For Smoking director is actually planning to adapt and direct a version of Chad Kultgen’s novel Men, Women And Children and is eyeing Jennifer Garner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Cameron Diaz and, more surprisingly, Adam Sandler to star.
Published in 2011, Kultgen’s book, according to its publishers, "explores the sexual pressures of junior high school students and their parents navigating the internet’s shared landscape of pornography, blogs, social networking, and its promise of opportunities, escapes, reinvented identities, and unexpected conflicts.”
Reitman’s clearly a fan, having provided some complimentary words for Kultgen’s The Average American Male. He’s apparently not waiting around to get working on this one either, making plans to kick off shooting in November if it all comes together, though no final deals have been done.
Garner, of course, has experience with Reitman, having co-starred in Juno. DeWitt’s a talented performer, Diaz has proven her chops, and while Sandler seems like an odd choice, those who have seen Punch Drunk Love knows he can deliver dramatically when paired with the right director and script.
The writer-director’s latest, Labor Day, just premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and has a slot at Toronto. It opens here on February 7.
