With shooting set to kick off this year here in the UK, James Gunn and Marvel are busy gathering the cast they need for Guardians Of The Galaxy. First was Chris Pratt as Peter Quill , and it appears he’ll get some support from Conan**’s Jason Momoa as Drax The Destroyer.

Latino Review reports that Momoa put in such an effective screen test that the Marvel brass decided to offer him the role, kick-starting negotiations. Neither the superhero stable nor its Disney owners have officially confirmed any of this, so we have to count it as a rumour until he’s actually announced.

But Momoa, despite his box office hiccup with the DOA Conan remake, seems like a good choice for Drax. The character (who also goes by the slightly less superheroic name Arthur Douglas) began life as a human whose family was attacked and killed by Thanos (the purple villain introduced at the end of** Avengers Assemble**). He’s given a second chance at life by Kronos, who puts his spirit into the powerful new Drax body, designed to take on Thanos. He then joined the Guardians in their battle against the evil being.

How much of that back-story will make it into the final film is anyone’s guess, but first we have to wait and see whether he actually makes a deal.
