Alongside its usual song-and-dance about new technology, Apple finally used its latest keynote to finally confirm a few details about its Apple TV+ streaming service. And there was also a trailer for one of the first shows available on the service, dystopian drama See, starring Jason Momoa.
Created by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight and with Francis Lawrence kicking off the first episode as director, See is set in the distant future, where a deadly virus has almost wiped out humanity. Those who survived are blind, and society has shifted back to a more traditional hunter/gatherer nature. But when Baba Voss (Momoa) discovers that his newborn twins have sight, he must protect them from a powerful, desperate queen who sees the kids as a huge threat, a step back to the chaos that her people believed doomed the human race.
Alfre Woodard, Sylvia Hoeks, Yadira Guevara-Prip and Hera Hilmar are all in the cast, which also features actors who are completely blind or have low vision.
Apple has now confirmed that Apple TV+ is due to launch on 1 November at a monthly cost of $4.99 (around £4 – and yes, unlike Disney+, Apple's service will be available in the UK on the first day) with no ads. Shows that will be ready to stream from day one also include Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon's The Morning Show, Hailee Steinfeld-starring Dickinson, Ronald D. Moore's astro-drama For All Mankind, and a new show starring Snoopy. Those who buy a new iPad, iPhone or Mac will score a year's free service.
