Though we’ve already had Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Steven Spielberg is about to deliver his own take on Lincoln, someone clearly feels there’s room left for more Lincoln loglines. That man is Terrence Malick, who is producing The Green Blade Rises, with Jason Clarke signed to play Lincoln’s father, Tom.
The movie will follow the formative younger years of America’s 16th president, including the harsh conditions in which he lived and the rough treatment he suffered at the hands of his abusive pop. Diane Kruger is on board to play Sarah Lincoln, Abe’s stepmother, who helps to raise him when Tom abandons them both.
Although Malick is producing the movie, we doubt Clarke will worry too much about being left on the cutting room floor, since AJ Edwards, a regular collaborator with the Tree Of Life filmmaker, is handling writing / directing duties and will have the final say.
Clarke has been busy of late, with his profile rising sharply. He’ll be seen as one of the Bondurant brothers in Lawless, out this Friday, and has Zero Dark Thirty and** The Great Gatsby** set for release. He’s currently at work on Roland Emmerich’s White House Down alongside Channing Tatum, which we suppose makes this a kind of Presidential double-bill.
