We’re still waiting to see Jason Bateman’s 2013 directorial debut, Bad Words, here in the UK, but he’s already been lining up new possible directing/starring gigs. There’s one already in the offing about an FBI wedding, and now Fox Searchlight wants him to make **IPO Man.
No, it’s not probing the most obscure corner of the DC Comics’ universe, but will instead draw from Joshua Davis’ Wired article Meet The Man Who Sold His Fate at $1 A Share. Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harper are tasked with adapting the piece, which chronicled what happened when Mike Merrill essentially put his life in the hands of shareholders after putting himself on offer at $1 a share with 100,000 shares available, selling 928.
His world got a lot more complicated when the shareholders began to demand control over everything, his girlfriend – a minority shareholder – dumped him and the effects on his life became ever more wacky. It certainly sounds promising for a comedy, so let's hope he can find a way to make the financial aspect interesting.
Bateman has recently worked on his second film, The Family Fang, in which he co-stars with Nicole Kidman. On the purely acting front, he’ll be back on our screens for Horrible Bosses 2, due November 28.
