He’s been piling on the comedies recently, with two – Horrible Bosses and the upcoming The Change-Up – out this year, but it appears Jason Bateman is not slowing his pace down. According to the team at Pajiba, he’s now locked in the lead for We’re the Millers.
With Dodgeball director Rawson Marshall Thurber now in charge of the megaphone, the script might finally have the chance to dig itself out of the development grave where it has lingered for nearly a decade.
Originated by Wedding Crashes writers Steve Faber and Bob Fisher back in 2002, the story finds a veteran pot dealer trying to make one last big score. As part of his plan, he creates a fake family to carry a huge shipment of the drug across the border between Mexico and the US.
Since then, The Full Monty director Peter Cattaneo has come and gone along with possible star Steve Buscemi and a host of writers. Burr Steers and several other hot indie directors were approached last year, but Thurber is currently the man in the hot seat.
With Hot Tub Time Machine scribes John Morris and Sean Anders having taken the most recent crack at the script, fingers crossed this one A) finally sees the light of day and B) is actually good.
Oh, and Bateman’s casting hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it’s a fair bet he’d be willing to reunite with his Dodgeball director…
