Here's a news story we didn't expect to write: Jared Leto's version of The Joker, who saw his storyline infamously reduced in the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad, will now show up in Zack Snyder's extended, four-episode "event series" version of Justice League.
It's more of a surprise given that the Joker didn't appear at all in the Justice League that was released in cinemas and hadn't been mentioned even when Snyder was working on the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto will be shooting extra work alongside Ben Affleck as Snyder completes some scenes and adds new material to his vision for the superhero team-up, due to appear on HBO Max in the States (and presumably elsewhere if the service doesn't launch in the UK) next year.
Naturally, this will bring more attention on fellow director David Ayer's attempts to get similar treatment for his cut of Suicide Squad, though unlike Zack Snyder's Justice League, there has been no official announcement about a different version forthcoming for that movie.
Leto was a divisive Joker, and while attention shifted to Joaquin Phoenix for his Oscar-winning turn as a very different example of the character, some have wanted Leto back in any capacity. Now they will get their wish...
