At this point, it feels like we're going to get an announcement about a potential Joker film every week. Today, though, it's the turn of the incumbent, as Variety reports that Warner Bros. and DC are aiming to craft a standalone film about Jared Leto's Clown Prince of Crime from Suicide Squad.
It's extremely early days for this one, with no writer or director announced, nor any clue as to what the plot might be. Perhaps it'll chronicle what the Joker was up to during all the chunks of Suicide Squad in which he didn't appear? All that's confirmed right now is that Leto will star and executive produce and the aim is to tie it into future installments of Squad movies, such as the sequel still in development.
And to be clear, this has nothing to do with Todd Phillips' planned Joker origin story, with Joaquin Phoenix taking on the role there for a film that will not be tied into the main DCEU. Confusing? Well, it is the Joker, and with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn scoring at least one spin-off, we suppose ol' smileyface was due...
