A lot about Sony's next planned Spider-Man spin-off, Morbius is still unclear, particularly the plot. But the casting continues as a the cameras role, with Jared Harris joining the film.
Life's Daniel Espinosa is busy directing and Morbius will adapt Roy Thomas and Gil Kane's character, originally launched in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man in 1971. It'll spotlight Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who tries to cure a rare blood disease using an experimental treatment that combines electroshock therapy and vampire bats. The results are predictably catastrophic, and he's transformed into... well, the title should be a clue. He has some of the traditional vampiric qualities – he ingests blood to live, and conversely is not fond of bright light. He can fly, has superhuman strength and healing capabilities. When he bites victims and drinks their blood, his attacks are often lethal, but he doesn't turn anyone into a bloodsucker himself.
Adria Arjona is on to play Martine Bancroft, who in the comics is Morbius' fiancee, who dies and comes back as a vampire herself. Whether that is her fate in the movie has yet to be revealed. And like recent addition Matt Smith, Harris' role is unknown for now. And according to Variety, he's not the only new recruit as Fast & Furious franchise veteran Tyrese Gibson is also now aboard.
Leto has posted to Twitter about filming, giving a glimpse of his character on set.
Harris has a couple of projects coming up, including HBO miniseries Chernobyl and Amazon fantasy series Carnival Row. He's also part of the cast for Robert The Bruce, which should be in cinemas this year.
