So, it’s official. Well, semi-official. Jane Goldman is writing X-Men: First Class.

Says who? Her husband, Jonathan Ross, that’s who. Hot on the heels of a throwaway Twitter remark that his wife had booked a writing gig on a big blockbuster that would take her away from him for ten weeks, Ross did it again last night, saying “The wife is away writing X-Men 4, so I am off to bed with little Sweeney alone.”

Now, before you get your knickers in a twist and start planning for X-Men 4, we’re pretty sure that Ross meant X-Men: First Class, the prequel that will focus on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, aka Magneto, and the founding of Xavier’s School For Gifted Youngsters. X-Men 4 is a whole different kettle of fish and isn't quite at the starting grid yet.

Frankly, Goldman’s involvement has been expected ever since Matthew Vaughn took on the directing gig last week. After all, they wrote Stardust, The Debt and **Kick-Ass **together, and Vaughn has said many times that he can’t imagine writing screenplays without her. And, judging from their past collaborations, X-Men: First Class is in good hands. We wish Goldman well – and as for @Wossy, cheer up mate. Those ten weeks will fly by.
